Our History
Man O’ War LAUTECH Command started in 1993 with the idea conceived by Gold Statesman Eweoya when he got admission into URP Dept. He joined Man O’ War Club at Baptist Grammar School Eruwa in 1988 till he completed his Secondary School in 1992.
On getting admission into Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), thinking he will be able to continue his extra-curricular activities as a Man O’ War member, but the Club was not in existence because the Institution was still new created.
On his quest to establish the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, he visited University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), St. Andrew College of Education (SACOED), and Technical College Ogbomoso for assistance to set up Man O’ War LAUTECH Command, they all promised support but it didn’t yield much.
Then came “HOPE 93” crisis when all schools including LAUTECH lost a session due to MKO Abiola’s political crisis. On School’s resumption in June 1994, nobody was interested in hearing about Man O’ War, but among his friends he asked to join him, namely Ola Obitusi, Adeosun Samson, Tayo Popoola and another person that he couldn’t recollect his name and him inclusive making up five men that held the first meeting, jogging and parade at Ogbomoso Stadium.
However, he was the only one with Man O’ War experience before coming to LAUTECH. Mobilising and canvasing for more members to join led him to Patricia Babalola, who happened to be the first female to join the team. Once in a while Gold Statesman Eweoya entered the school premises in Man O War uniform and some students ask me if Man O’ War was on the campus and he answered “YES”, but turn up for training and meetings of members was very discouraging and many of the pioneer members left.
Despite all of this, he kept the flag high and his continuous effort led him to Bayo Majonagbe and Wale Ojoawo who also joined the club. The idea of “if each Patriot can recruit five persons” cropped up and the number swelled above twenty.
At this point Gold Statesman Eweoya thought of registering the Club in 1995. The process commenced and was successfully registered and approved by the School authority under the then Vice Chancellor Prof. M.A. Salau JP, F.N.I.P, and the Dean of Students’ Affair Prof. Dele Afolabi. The two Professors were morally and financially supportive to the club and were later decorated as “LIFE PATRONS”
